Nzem Berom 2023: Inauguration of Main Planning Committee held on Monday the 23rd January, 2023 at the Palace of His Majesty the Gbong Gwom Jos by 11am.

It is that time of the year again, when the best of Culture is celebrated on the Plateau with the Nzem Berom festivities. As has been the practice over the years, the inauguration of the Main Planning Committee for Nzem Berom 2023 took place at the Palace of the Gbong Gwom Jos on Monday the 23rd of January, 2023 by 11am; the Main Planning Committee has the following members:

Inaugurating the Committee, His Majesty, Da Jacob Gyang Buba CFR, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs charged the Chairman and members to put in their best having been carefully selected to serve as members of the Nzem Berom 2023 Main Planning Committee. Among other things, the paramount ruler enjoined the Committee not to be restricted to activities and events of the previous Nzem but may be innovative in the process. He gave an example of a possible tour of identified cultural sites and monuments as an added event in Nzem Berom 2023. He clarified that unlike previous years, the Committee has been given discretion to constitute sub-committees that will help carry out its mandate.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Senator I. D. Gyang appreciated His Majesty’s royal call and the privilege extended to members to plan and host Nzem Berom 2023 out of the very many capable sons and daughters of the land. He assured His Majesty that members of the committee are disposed to justifying the confidence reposed on them to stage a very successful outing of Nzem Berom 2023.

Prayers were offered for the Committee and success of Nzem Berom 2023 by Da Rev. Davou D. Gyang (rtd) who is the Vice President of BEMFO and the Secretary of BEC.

After the inauguration of the Committee, members held an inaugural meeting in the Nzem Berom office situated at the Gbong Gwom palace and deliberated at length on the mandate of the committee consequent upon which the Chairman constituted a Technical Committee to work out an action plan with the following as members;

  3. BYM President, Barr Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri – Member
  4. BDDA Chairman, Da Silas Bot Pwajok – Member

The Technical Committee’s terms of reference are:

i. To develop the Content and scope for Nzem Berom 2023 which will include, time lines and activity areas (sub – committees).
ii. To recommend Chairmen and Secretaries of sub committees and a manageable number of each sub – committee membership.
iii. Draw up a general calendar of events
iv. Recommend a theme for Nzem Berom 2023 in line with recent editions of the festival.
v. Identify lapses in previous editions of the festival, and proffer ways to avoid the occurrence of such lapses in the 2023 edition.
vi. To look at the implications of hosting District festivals just before Nzem Berom.
vii. To propose regional coordinators who will be coordinated by the General Coordinator, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop the BECO President.
The Technical Committee is to submit its report to the Chairman Main Planning Committee on Monday the 30th of January, 2023.
